These pages sum up the rules to help you find them. They are not legal advice. The state's own regulations govern, so check them before you go.

Hunter education in Wyoming

Hunter Education is required to hunt with a firearm in Wyoming if you were born on or after January 1, 1966. The Hunter Education Temporary Exception, or HETE, is the mentored program: the mentee must be at least 12 to hunt big game, and the mentor must be at least 18, hunter education certified, and hold a valid Wyoming hunting license.

A HETE mentor may supervise only one hunter mentee at a time in the field and must maintain direct supervision, meaning within sight and direct voice contact. One special authorization is valid for one year.

Minimum hunting age in Wyoming

Applies to: Big game

W.S. 23-2-102 requires a hunter to be 12 to hunt big or trophy game, with 11 allowed if turning 12 within the calendar year. Under 14 must be supervised by an adult of majority age holding a safety certificate or a Wyoming big game license issued within the past five years, with written parental permission if the adult is not the parent or guardian.

Applies to: Upland and small game

For small game and game birds a license is required at 14 and older. Younger residents may hunt most game birds unlicensed when accompanied, but wild turkey still requires a license.

Blaze orange in Wyoming

Applies to: Big game

Anyone who is hunting big and trophy game during an open firearm season is required to wear one exterior garment of fluorescent orange or fluorescent pink, and it must be visible from 360 degrees. There is no square-inch requirement. It also applies to archers and crossbow hunters during open firearm seasons and to wild bison hunters. Archery-only seasons are exempt.

Applies to: Upland and small game

Pheasant hunters on specified WGFD management areas must also wear fluorescent orange or fluorescent pink.

Shooting hours in Wyoming

Big game, trophy game and small game animals may only be taken from one-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset.

Baiting in Wyoming

Applies to: Big game

Bait for big game is limited to specified individuals only: those who are legally blind, confined to a wheelchair, hunting under certain disability permits, or licensed under specific provisions.

Source

Applies to: Bear

Black bear baiting is allowed in most Wyoming hunt areas, but only at bait sites registered with Game and Fish (up to six per person per year). Baiting is closed in Areas 22, 25, 26 and 32, designated wilderness, grizzly bear primary conservation areas and parts of Areas 23, 27, 28 and 35. Bait must be at least 200 yards from water, roads and pack trails and a half mile from developed campgrounds, picnic grounds and buildings, and may not include game animals, game birds, game fish or protected species.

Predatory animal hunters on public land using artificial light must display an activated infrared strobe beacon visible from 100 yards.

Tagging and reporting a harvest in Wyoming

Applies to: Big game

The carcass coupon shall be signed, dated and attached to the carcass of any big game or wild turkey in such a manner as to be plainly visible before leaving the site of the kill. In sex-restricted areas, either the visible external sex organs, head or antlers shall accompany the carcass or edible portions thereof.

Hunting on private land in Wyoming

W.S. 23-3-305: no person shall enter upon, travel through or return across the private property of any person to take wildlife, hunt, fish, or trap without the permission of the owner or person in charge of the property. Permission need not be written for daytime hunting, but written permission of the landowner or lessee is required to hunt at night on private or leased land.

Can you show your Wyoming license on your phone?

Fishing license on phone OK. Big game coupon is paper.

WGFD “will accept electronic versions of fishing licenses and Conservation Stamps on mobile devices,” if the license is “saved, accessible and you are willing to present your phone to law enforcement.” Big game, wild turkey and trophy game carcass coupons are physical: “the entire day and month of the kill shall be completely cut out,” and the coupon “shall be signed, dated and attached to the carcass … before leaving the site of the kill.”

Paper license and coupon for big game; cut and attach
