Terms of Use
Last updated 30 September 2026
Sportsmen Ledger is a record-keeping tool. It is not legal advice, it does not issue licenses, and it does not make you compliant. The official regulations published by your state and federal wildlife agencies are the only authority on what is legal. You are responsible for knowing them and for the ground you stand on.
1. Who these terms are with
Sportsmen Ledger is published by Elliott and Sons Consulting LLC (“we”, “us”), 810 Kempton Ct., Wheatland, CA 95692, United States. By using the app you agree to these terms.
2. Who may use it
You must be at least 16 years old to use Sportsmen Ledger. A person under 16 may be recorded as a holder within a parent or guardian’s wallet. The consent toggle in the app is a record you keep for yourself; it is not court-grade proof of parental consent and does not satisfy any state’s legal requirement for it.
3. What the app is, and is not
- It is a place to keep copies of licenses a state has already issued to you, a log of what you have taken, and researched summaries of published regulations.
- It does not sell licenses and never handles your license fee. Every buy button opens the state agency’s own website. All money passes between you and the state.
- It does not file anything with any agency. Tag closeout is a checklist that directs you to the official channel. Nothing in the app registers a tag, submits a harvest report, or communicates with any agency on your behalf.
- It does not verify any license, identity document or certification you enter.
4. The researched rules
The app contains summaries of published hunting and fishing regulations for all fifty states. Each summary names the agency and regulation it came from so that you can check it. Where a rule could not be verified the app says so rather than asserting a conclusion.
These summaries are provided for convenience and may be incomplete, out of date, or wrong. Regulations change, sometimes mid-season and sometimes by emergency order. Before you hunt or fish, read the official regulations. We make no warranty that any rule shown is current or correct, and we are not liable for a citation, fine, forfeiture or other loss arising from reliance on them.
5. Maps and boundaries
Unit boundaries are retrieved from state wildlife agencies’ own public map services; public land layers come from the Bureau of Land Management and topography from the USGS National Map. These are planning aids. They are not survey-grade, are not a boundary of record, and must not be used to determine a property line. Knowing whether you are on land you may lawfully hunt is your responsibility.
6. Your data
Your data stays on your device. If you create an account, a copy locked with your password is also kept with our storage provider. We cannot read that copy, and we cannot recover your wallet if you lose both your device and your password. If you clear your browser’s site data, delete the app, lose the device or forget a backup passphrase without an account, that data is gone permanently. Take backups. See the privacy policy for the detail.
7. Acceptable use
You agree not to use Sportsmen Ledger to record, assist, plan or conceal an unlawful take, to enter false information about a license or a harvest, or to represent to any officer that a record in the app is something other than what it is. Entering a knowingly false record, including in a competition, ends your use of the app and any competition entry with it.
8. Competitions
Competitions run inside the app have their own published rules, which you must read before entering. In summary: no purchase or paid subscription is necessary to enter or win, and entry is available on every plan including the free one. Entries require evidence — a measurement, how it was taken and a photograph of the scale or tape — and an entry claiming an unlawful take is disqualified and reported where the law requires it.
Competitions are administered solely by Elliott and Sons Consulting LLC. They are not sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with, Apple Inc., Google LLC, or any state or federal wildlife agency. Void where prohibited.
9. Subscriptions
Subscriptions are not open at the time of writing and nothing in the app charges anything. When they open on iPhone they will be sold through Apple’s in-app purchase system, and Apple’s terms will govern billing, renewal and refunds. A subscription buys access to app features only. It never includes, discounts or substitutes for a state license fee.
10. Disclaimer of warranties
The app is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any rule, boundary, forecast or light time it displays is accurate.
11. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Elliott and Sons Consulting LLC is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any citation, fine, penalty, forfeiture, lost opportunity, personal injury, property damage or loss of data arising out of your use of, or inability to use, the app. Our total aggregate liability for any claim relating to the app will not exceed the amount you paid us for it in the twelve months before the claim arose.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
12. Emergency features
The emergency screen displays your coordinates and contacts for you to use. It does not call anybody, does not transmit a distress signal, and is not a substitute for a personal locator beacon or satellite messenger. It depends on your phone having power and, to place a call, a signal. Do not plan a trip around it.
13. Intellectual property
The app, its text, its artwork and the species plates are the property of Elliott and Sons Consulting LLC. You may use the app for your own personal, non-commercial purposes. You keep everything you enter.
14. Ending it
You may stop using the app at any time by deleting it. We may end your access if you breach these terms, in particular section 7.
15. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be brought in the state or federal courts located in California.
16. Languages
The app and this website can be read in sixteen languages. Translations are made to help you read them and may contain mistakes. The English text is the official version. Where a translation differs from it, the English governs, and so do the official regulations of your state.
17. Changes
If these terms change the date at the top changes with them. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept it.
